Certain superficial areas of the body can be examined with a special high frequency ultrasound transducer which gives very clear, high resolution images. These areas include the thyroid gland in the neck, the testes and scrotal contents and any superficial nodule or fluid collection. The scan procedure is the same as for any other examination, with gel applied to the skin surface and a flat linear probe moved over the area of interest to create the images.
